Remember the days of aspiring to be an actor/model/dancer? No, that's not enough today. It just doesn't make the cut. A person needs a clothing line, a fragrance, body lotion and maybe another clothing line. It all started with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen. The forerunners of the artists -as -a-brand trend have only gotten the ball rolling on this rapidly expanding idea. Jessica Simpson, for instance, is not only a pop princess but has a shoes/accessories line as well as a fragrance and body lotion brand. Justin Timberlake is a star whose talents include singing, acting, dancing - he also has a clothing line, William Rast.
This was years ago, though. However, it's a trend that's still proving to be as strong as more stars are testing the waters of enjoying multi-faceted careers.
Ryder, Rourke join 'The Informers'
Hollywood actors Winona Ryder and Mickey Rourke have signed on to star in the film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' short-story collection "The Informers."
Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the film follows the interconnected stories of a group of morally challenged characters for a week.
Ryder will play a newscaster dumped after a longtime affair with a married producer, while Rourke is set to portray Peter, a former film studio security guard who plots to kidnap a small child to sell to the leader of a Los Angeles cult, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Brandon Routh, Ashley Olsen, Jon Foster, Lou Taylor Pucci and Austin Nichols co-star in the film, which will be directed by Australian "Ned Kelly" and "Buffalo Soldiers" director Gregor Jordan.

Melbourne, Sept 22 (ANI): Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke have signed up to star in 'The Informers'. The Gregor Jordan directed pic is based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel of the same name. Ryder and Rourke will now be joining an already confirmed cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Brandon Routh, Ashley Olsen, Jon Foster, Lou Taylor Pucci and Austin Nichols, reports Moviehole.net. According to the Hollywood Reporter, which tells seven separate stories, follows a week in the lives of a group of morally challenged characters -- a movie executive, his wife, his mistress, a rock star, a vampire and a kidnapper. Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the movie is being financed by Senator Entertainment. Ryder is to play a newscaster who has just been dumped after a longtime affair with a married producer William Sloan.
Girl, 7, dies, when little brother knocks over TV
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Police say a 7-year-old girl died today when her 5-year-old brother accidentally pushed a big screen TV onto her. The children were watching television in their mother's bedroom at about 8 a.m., while she slept. Police say the boy inadvertently pushed the television forward when he went behind it to plug in a video game. His sister was on the floor below.
