Girl, 7, dies, when little brother knocks over TV
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Police say a 7-year-old girl died today when her 5-year-old brother accidentally pushed a big screen TV onto her. The children were watching television in their mother's bedroom at about 8 a.m., while she slept. Police say the boy inadvertently pushed the television forward when he went behind it to plug in a video game. His sister was on the floor below. The girl suffered head injuries and died at a local hospital. Police are treating it as an accident. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Geek guilty of 'Big Brother' attacks
A lonely school caretaker was convicted yesterday of launching a vicious letter bomb campaign in protest at Britain's Big Brother society. Friendless Miles Cooper - known by neighbours as the "invisible man" - posted seven devices to offices he believed were involved in snooping. Five exploded, injuring eight people. Yesterday, the gawky geek with a fascination for weaponry said he acted because no one listened to his obsessive concerns about the "surveillance" society. He said: "The goal was to shut down certain departments to highlight my cause. .
Britain's Mr Big Brother decides to depart from Endemol
The man whose name is synonymous with the Big Brother phenomenon in Britain is to step down as chief creative officer of Endemol, the independent production company behind the show. As part of a wider management shakeup that coincides with the return of founder John de Mol, Peter Bazalgette said yesterday he would step down on January 1, when he will also relinquish his position as chairman of Endemol UK. He has been with Endemol for almost a decade since he sold his TV production company Bazal to the Dutch group in 1998. Mr de Mol retook control of the company this year with Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset and Goldman Sachs after a protracted sale process, in a deal worth €3.5bn (£2.4bn). The consortium bought it from Spanish telecoms group Telefónica, which had paid €5.5bn for the company at the height of the dotcom boom in 2000.
