Atlantis Tapping Into Change

Amanda Tapping, who joins the cast of Stargate Atlantis in the upcoming fourth season, told reporters that the change in scenery will bring out new qualities in her character, Col. Samantha Carter.

"Her discomfort comes from the fact that she's completely out of her element," Tapping told reporters in a conference call on Sept. 26. "She's not in her comfort zone. This is a woman who's spent her entire career taking orders and being subordinate to a degreeas per military protocoland is now suddenly in a position where she influences people's lives by the decisions that she makes. And so on that aspect, she's really struggling, I think, in some ways, to find that strength."

Tapping appears in the fourth season of Atlantis, which kicks off Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Hanky panky

Sneezing is hot right now. Whereas once a sneeze was something thought to displease or cause social unease, for an increasing amount of people it's the bee's knees. They are heartened to hear there should be more tickles and congestion in hooters this autumn and winter than for a decade. So they will no longer hide away their delight in their own or others' respiratory discharges. They are coming out of the closet as sneeze voyeurs, sneeze teases, sneeze junkies, sneeze emcees (percussive sneezers), and Pro-Sternutation activists. 'Sneezing rocks our world,' notes an aficionado.

Animals still outnumber tourists, but you'd better hurry

MASAI MARA, Kenya I'm here to say the safari experience is truly humbling.

Here on the golden savanna, the lions still roar. The crocodile, hippo, giraffe, elephant, warthog, zebra and hyena lead colorful lives. The goofy wildebeest still migrate in their ancient clockwise pattern in their clumpy, galumphing stride.

And here, humans are just specks on a landscape - little dots in little safari vehicles, talking in their tiny voices, taking their tiny pictures, then going away.

It is a life-changing trip. It is an expensive trip. It is a worth-it trip.

But if you want to go, you might want to go soon. Before things change.

The Buzz: The rating game

Radar Magazine's October issue has taken what it believes are the most-hyped, yet hollow, cultural sensations and ranked them on "The Overrated 100" list.

Victoria "Posh" Beckham and her handsomely compensated hubby David share the No. 1 spot, and here's why: "Let's face it: He's an overpaid soccer star; she's a pointless collection of body parts."
