Gov. Fuentes chides House for resetting SK, barangay polls

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews) -- The House of Representatives practically threw away at least P600 million for their own "selfish interests" when they voted on Monday to reset anew the October 29 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to May 2009, local officials here said.

South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes, who earlier served three terms as representative of the second district of South Cotabato to Congress, said the 149 legislators who voted to cancel next month's elections clearly ignored the more than P600 million already spent by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in their continuing preparation for the upcoming polls in favor of their own interests.

Voting 149-50, the House of Representatives passed House Bill 2417 postponing the October 29 elections to the first Monday of May 2009.

Not that Jacob Brown is complaining.
