Hirsch gives vibrant performance in 'Wild'

You probably don't know the name Emile Hirsch. Not yet at least. He's a young, good-looking, up-and-coming actor who's been working steadily for the past few years now - he was the guy who lusted after Elisha Cuthbert in "The Girl Next Door," maybe that'll ring a bell. All that should change, however, with "Into the Wild," and deservedly so.Hirsch offers a tour de force as the doomed Christopher McCandless, whose restless wanderings in search of nature, beauty and truth left him dead in Alaska, starved and alone, at 24.In adapting Jon Krakauer's 1998 best-seller of the same name, writer-director Sean Penn gives him a wealth of material to work with. Hirsch gets to be charming, passionate and idealistic but also impetuous, stubborn and self-righteous. Penn depicts this flawed figure with all the richness and complexity you'd find in the unforgiving Alaskan terrain, presenting McCandless in both his selflessness and selfishness without once judging him or turning him into a martyr. At the same time, there's an innocence to "Into the Wild," with its notions about the purity of freedom, that harkens to films of the late 1960s like "Easy Rider." And Penn, working with cinematographer Eric Gautier ("The Motorcycle Diaries") and sometimes shooting his own footage, captures the grit and grandeur of this nation so vividly, he almost makes you want to chuck it all, too, and head for the open road. That's Chris' plan in 1990 after graduating from Emory University.

Jessica Biel turns down Wonder Woman role

Jessica Biel has turned down the chance to star as Wonder Woman in superhero film Justice League of America.

Biel was earlier reported to be in talks to star in the film, but according to Entertainment Weekly, the deal has broken down, reports Moviehole.

Movie bosses at Warner Bros. are still looking to fill up are that of Superman, Batman, the Flash and Aquaman.

George Miller is already on board as director, with the script being penned by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

The studio, in the meanwhile, has declined to comment on whether Biel is a part of the cast or not, saying that it prefers to announce an entire cast rather than piecemeal deals.

Joel Silver is producing the superhero flick.

However, not expected to join the cast are Christian Bale and Brandon Routh -- Warner's reigning Batman and Superman, respectively.

Posh's perfume an American flop

Victoria Beckham's perfume has flopped in America.

The Spice Girl and soccer star husband David launched their his and hers fragrance, Intimately Beckham Night, just over a week ago.

However, despite an expensive and high-profile advertising campaign the scent has failed to impress the American buying public.

Eight bottles of the perfume - which retail at $38 for 30ml - are now being sold on internet auction site eBay for as little as 75 cents.

It's not just the fragrance that is failing to sell.

Hundreds of Beckham-related products have also seen their price plunge on eBay, with one pair of Victoria's designer jeans snapped up for just one cent.

Victoria's spokesman said: "I imagine no-one's buying off eBay because they are all the products they want from the shops.
