Whatever You Say, Honey...Socialite Palermo Praises Nicky Hilton's Sequined Schmatte

We're no fashion expert, but we're fairly certain that the clothes at Nicky Hilton's Bryant Park show on Sunday were…bad. Ms. Hilton's new line, Nicholai, had no unifying theme except shortness, and looked in moments to have been plucked from the sale rack at Forever 21. There was a white St. Tropez-looking bikini The Transom thought was hot, worn with a do-rag by leggy model Caroline Trentini, but it was soon cancelled out by an outfit involving a boxy green metallic blazer that can only be described as Star-Trek-at-the-disco. Almost everything involved sequins. And half of it, you couldn't imagine Ms. Hilton would wear herself.

But a Nicky Hilton fashion show isn't really about the clothes anyway, and the front row didn't disappoint. Instead of Kate Bosworth and Demi Moore, we had Jenna Jameson and Brandon Davis, but hey, this was different! Also spotted were Russell Simmons, Trevor Rains and Richie Rich of Heatherette, Arden Wohl, Amanda Hearst, and Olivia Palermo.

Post-Emmy Partying

As "The Sopranos" won its last Emmy Award on Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium, everyone at the awards began the scramble for their limos, heading out for a big night on the town. Some stayed behind to hit the Governor's Ball, however – winners Jamie Pressly, America Ferrera, Helen Mirren, Sally Field, and Robert Duvall stayed around for that one. But most people had picked out their favorite place to be, and that took some driving. .

Tony Romo has star power

The Dallas Cowboys threw Tony Romo into the spotlight last season. He responded by becoming a Pro Bowl quarterback, a judge at the Miss Universe pageant, a Pepsi pitchman, and tabloid fodder for his tenuous ties to Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson.

Not bad for a guy who received only a partial college scholarship from a directional school.

"It doesn't matter where you start out," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "He's really worked at the game. He's worked at his craft."

Thus, Romo's success only appears to have come out of nowhere. .

Plenty of geeks, lots of fantasy on fall TV

Welcome to the 2007-08 broadcast network TV season where you will be asked to suspend disbelief more than usual. And it will help if you have an affinity for geeks and nerds.

The big trend this fall is the significant number of new broadcast series with fantasy/sci-fi themes, some with a touch of the fairy tale. And the new heroes are often average geeky guys.

The reason for this is simple. The networks always copy their successes, and the templates from last year's hits are "Heroes" and "Ugly Betty." (For more on the trend, see Diane Werts' television commentary, Page 5B).

A year ago, the big trend was the serial because of the success of shows like "24" and "Lost." Out of eight such new 2006 serials, only "Heroes" survived.

This week, The Post will handicap each night of the new TV season.

Spout Off

After two weeks of denials, the New York Times acknowledged that it should not have given a discount to MoveOn.org for a full-page advertisement assailing Gen. David H. Petraeus. The liberal advocacy group should have paid $142,000 for the ad calling the U.S. commander in Iraq "General Betray Us," not $65,000, the paper's public editor wrote yesterday. .
