Jennifer Love Hewitt
Hewitts Ghost Whisperer Phantom

Actress JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT is convinced the set of U.S. TV show GHOST WHISPERER is haunted after she and several crew members felt a 'spirit' tugging on their clothes. The superstitious 28-year-old admits the idea of a ghost haunting the show's set sounds ridiculous, but insists a phantom lurks there. She says, "There can be energies and spirits in and around places. "We were filming in a certain part of a lot and there was this building I was walking out of to start a scene, and there were seven crew members who went inside this building and had very strange experiences. "One of the ladies felt her sweater being tugged and she couldn't explain it and another guy felt somebody tugging on the bottom of his jeans, and I had the bottom of my dress tugged. "We definitely felt like something was in there."

Jennifer loves those ghosts

Jennifer Love Hewitt is living a double life.

Really, she is. Was your mind going elsewhere?

Anyway, Hewitt claims she regularly is approached by people who confuse her with Melinda Gordon, the character she plays on Ghost Whisperer.

"All the time. I'm constantly having people ask me to cross over people, or stopping me and saying, 'Would you just tell my grandmother blah, blah, blah,' " said Hewitt, who will be front and centre this evening as the third season of Ghost Whisperer gets under way (CTV/CBS).

"I get people who see me across the room and are motioning at me, and I'm like, 'No, there's no one else around you.' And I have to explain to them how I'm so not this person."

Melinda, of course, communicates with ghosts. Hewitt, as far as we know, does not.

Belief and the beyond

Camryn Manheim is in a bind: as the new star of Ghost Whisperer she has joined Jennifer Love Hewitt's Melinda Gordon as she ushers the departed from this world and battles the forces of darkness looking to capture these transient souls.

It's a world where the dead speak, where angels and devils drop in and where most of her cast mates believe there's an element of truth to it all.

And Manheim doesn't believe a word of it. "I'm a sceptic of the highest order," she said.

"My father is a mathematician and I grew up needing absolute concrete evidence, proof of everything ... and I just don't have it yet, you know?

"I have never seen a ghost. I have never witnessed it or felt it and I don't see the need to have the blind faith to believe in it."

And on a set where the series creator James Van Praagh, a practicing spiritualist who regularly holds seances for cast and crew, this makes Manheim the outsider.

Melinda experiences a bit of déjÀ vu on 'Ghost Whisperer'

"Ghost Whisperer" (8 p.m., WWJ-TV, Channel 62, CBS). Season premiere. It's another surreal deal for paranormal adventuress Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) as she digs into her family history seeking the truth, and is shocked to discover she has a previous connection to Grandview. Ooo-eee-ooo.

When Jodie was young

"Freaky Friday" (8 p.m., TCM). Family fun quality alert. The 1977 Disney original is a witty hoot. A young and way talented Jodie Foster and the perfectly matched, dizzily delightful Barbara Harris ("Plaza Suite"), play a rebellious daughter and exasperated mother caught up in a supernatural swirl of switched personalities. It's a nutty sweet treat.

What? No Tiger cap?
