Atreyu forges past metalcore's boundaries with 'Lead Sails'
Traditionally riff-heavy metalcore act Atreyu celebrated a No. 8 debut on Billboard's 200 for its release Lead Sails Paper Anchor on Hollywood earlier this month. And while the disc, ablaze with pedal steel and power-ballad flair, won't likely be mistaken as a precedent for emo-metal bands going alt-country, it does show that maybe exploring a scene's uncharted waters isn't quite as dangerous as you'd think. The band's hit plenty of uncharted waters recently they spent considerable time earlier this year with producer John Feldmann, known for his work with Tiger Beat alums Ashlee Simpson and Hillary Duff. If Atreyu wasn't fresh off the doomy-gloomy Family Values Tour, on which they played the bill's third spot behind headliners Korn and Evanescence, it'd be easy to get the impression that the morose Orange County outfit was softening up.
